Ninth: 1. Glue the brown squares to the top and bottom of the box with the glue gun. It works best to make an X on the top with the glue. Make sure to leave a small space on the top rear right corner. 2. Glue one of the straw pieces to the rear right corner pushing down into the box between the brown and box felt.
Tenth: Glue the brown felt rectangles on the right hand skinny side of the box toward the top. Glue the two white circles at the top front of the box. Glue the white square toward the bottom of the box front.

My attempt to capture the creation process
Okay so this is my attempt to capture and document my creative process spurred on by Wylie's request. I'm not telling what we were creating until the very end. So it started like this:
1. Wylie on the way home from school asked me "Mama, can you make a walkie-talkie?" My response was I think we can try. Let's see what we have on hand to do it.
2. Items on hand: A straw, an empty frozen waffle box, some felt in burgundy, green, yellow, white and brown, Glue gun, and scissors. Clear packing tape about two inches wide.
Directions follow picture by picture. Keep in mind this was a plan it as I go kind of thing.
First: Cut the frozen Waffle box in half width way.
Second: Cut the half of the box in half length way. You should have 2-three sided pieces of the box.
Third: Nestle the two halves together to make a rectangular box. You should have box flaps at each end.
Fourth: Tape the halves together and tape the box closed at the flaps. I used clear packing tape on the side and top and bottom. You don't need much just something to keep the halves from coming un-nestled.
Fifth: Pick your color of felt and measure out a piece by width and length to cover the box completely. I did this by using a long piece of felt that was the right length of the box and rolling the box up in it. I marked and then cut.
Sixth: If not already plugged in and turned on (Yes we had ours plugged in but not turned on!), get your glue gun ready. Put a thin line of hot glue along the edge of the box and then put the felt edge on top of it. Continue putting a thin line of glue on the edges of the box as you wrap the box up in the felt.
Seventh: Cut your straw in half so you have two pieces like shown below.
Eighth: Cut white and brown pieces of felt. 1. The white should be cut into a square about 1/2 the length of the box and the width of the box. You should also cut two small circles out of the white.
2. Cut two brown squares to cover the top and bottom of the box. 3. Cut two brown rectangles about 1/3rd the width of the skinny side of the box and about 1 inch long.
Brown squares to cover top and bottom of box.
