Mummies

Wylie has a mummy thing. All types of mummies are of interest especially the blue ones. YES blue ones. We spent Sunday morning at the California Science Center going through the Mummies of the World Exhibit. The exhibit covered the different types of mummies (natural-bog, dessert, salt; ancient-Egyptian, Peruvian, Roman; and modern-European.) and the different regions in which they can be found. We also learned about the items that were stored with the mummies and the reasons why those items were there. The really neat thing that we found out about are the different textures of mummies! Bog mummies are very rubbery while dessert mummies are very bumpy. Upon leaving the exhibit we were invited to make a mummy and then at home document the change after 2 weeks. We also purchased a mummy encased in sandstone to uncover. We decided to document that work as well.
The Carrot Mummy--Documenting size and shape The Mummy we will be uncovering. Documenting the size of the mummy case and mummy color exterior. (Sandstone exterior) Comparing carrot mummy and sandstone mummy size and covering Working to remove the sandstone covering with chisel and hammer. Also use a small brush to remove additional sand.
