Slip and slide

Summer+July-+Washington Metro Area= Heat, Humidity, and Slip and slides Wylie has only experienced summer heat and humidity in brief bits. We left la la land early in July under cloudy skies and 62F. We arrived in grandparent land in sun, heat, and serious humidity. Nanny P and Grandpa Fred thought a slip and slide would be a perfect way to cool off. Wyatt, Wylie and I packed our swimsuits in excitement of some fun sprinkler and water fun. History has proven to Wyatt and me that we need to not only be playmates with Wylie in the water but also need to show him how to do things in order for him to gain the confidence to try it on his own. For example: In Rancho Las Palmas there is a great fountain and sprinkler play area. We had to show Wylie how to climb under and around the sprinklers, that it wasn't scary to get soaked and the like. HOWEVER, he really wanted to do the water slide (alas he's still too short) and had Wyatt and me go down multiple times for him to watch. He didn't want to leave the water play area. So here are some snaps from the slip and slide:

The slip and slide was a huge hit once he understood how to do it. This included riding several times down on my back and then on Wyatt's back. This included being launched by Wyatt so he gained more speed. This included having Wyatt and I go down by ourselves to show Wylie how to do it. It was also very educational. 1. Scrapes and bruises should be expected. 2. Having it on a slight hill is a blast but painful at the end. 3. Being old means it hurts more to play on the slip and slide. 4. We need to invite kiddos over to play with us next time.
