National Cowboy and Cowgirl Day

We are members of a western heritage art, cowboy, movie and history museum. It was originally called the Gene Autry museum and has since changed to the The Autry Museum of Western Heritage. The membership cost is minimal and the benefits are fantastic. Wylie loves going and seeing the different exhibits both permanent and temporary. Some of the exhibits in the past have been "Cowboys and Presidents," "The Angles of Echo Park," and "Women in the West." All with adult and family oriented information. This past Saturday was another great event. The Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Griffith Park sponsored a day long celebration of National Cowboy and Cowgirl Day. It was open to everyone and members with kiddos received a special treat of a cowboy hat, sheriff pin, cowboy playing cards, and in general a fantastic day. Some of the events were cattle roping, changing of the guard on horseback, gunslingers, cowboy poets and musicians, folks dressed in period clothing, and gold panning. They also had several different types of chili, ribs, beans and other yummy typical cowboy food for purchase. Have I said how much fun we had? It was wonderful. We went home very happy and very tired with a new Ten Gallon Bart book.

Did I mention cattle rustling or cow catching or roping? Well, I have to say Cowboy Wylie is a natural. He managed to rustle/catch/rope his steer on the first try. The lead cowboy was quite impressed.
