Population Control

Most people who know me understand that I feel large families do not have a solid place in society anymore. Most people know that one of these days I just might state the phrase from Dickens Christmas Carol "Reduce the surface population." I believe in responsible birth planning and family planning. Before I get hit with the icky emails, this does not mean I think any of my friends who carefully planned and weighed their options to have more than one child are bad people. This does mean the following... 1. I feel that calling anything other than a totally naturally occuring multiple birth (this means the parents had sex together to create all offspring) a MIRACLE is WRONG. 2. I feel that anyone submitting to any kind of fertility treatments that turns into a single pregnancy with multiple births should be RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL RESULTS. 3. I feel that anyone who has spent the past 20 years using pharmaceuticals trying their best not to get pregnant should accept the difficulty of training their body to get pregnant. 4. I believe ADOPTION is an option many people should look into. Too many children need homes with far too many people willing to welcome a child into thier homes. Here is why I take issue with all this overpopulation. 1. We are no longer an agricultural society needing multiple hands on the farm to support the family 2. The majority of children born survive childhood, thus negating the need for multiple pregnancies 3. The majority of people who have conceived multiples by non-natural means have become a large burden on local and state aid sources. A little responsibility to begin with would have reduced this strain. 4. The majority of multiple birth babies are born severly pre-mature, face major health problems in the first three years of life and in some cases for their entire lives. 5. ALL IVF multiple births could have been prevented in the lab. ALL. 6. Finally, I find it hypocritical that religious people who are fully against abortion and contraception, FULLY AND UTTERLY SUPPORT the use of IVF, Hyperstimulation of the ovaries, and other pharmaceutically induced fertility treatments. Arent' those also messing with God's plan? Okay, enough ranting for now.
