Playgrounds

What do you think about playgrounds? How do you handle the kid that after more than one request that he leave your child alone in a rocky dinosaur just comes over and promptly rocks the dinosaur thing hard enough for your child to hit his head? Wylie was playing just fine. I was right there with him. AND then WHAMMO. Said kid (who could not be younger than 5 or 6) just walks up to the dinosaur and rocks it hard. Wylie held on and I tried to stop the rocking thing. Kid THEN pushes even hard and Wylie whacked his head. I just took Wylie out of the toy and held him close. I didn't know what else to do. It took the kid's dad about 10 minutes before he came over. Took Wylie that long to stop crying. Every mom in the place was giving the kid and the dad nasty looks until he finally came over. THEN apologized to my friend and her daughter! I guess I need to teach Wylie about playground rules starting right now with how to be gentle with little kids and how to play well with others. What are the playground rules? What are the rules for the parents and what are the rules for the kids? It was weird today because many more dads than moms.

ick.

i advocate for my kids big time probably annoying other parents...but they don't advocate for themselves very well at age 2...right now i'm into telling the other kids, 'you can have a turn when clare is finished' and then i honor that by removing her from whatever equipment in a few minutes. i'm also big into asking if clare can have a turn at a piece of equipment if a kid is hogging it...not sure if this is proper protocol but it's working so far...
