Angry Part 2
So I FINALLY after three phone calls on three consecutive days with 5 different people got in touch with the manager at the dentist. I point out that I have received a listing of work done and work insurance paid out from both insurance and dentist. My co-insurance amounts were total $75 based on insurance and I was billed a total of $301 by dentist. I asked for clarification as to why I was over charged.
First Response: I have to look into it and find your chart, let me put you on hold.
Second Response: The $301 is what is your co-insurance amount above what insurance pays out.
My response: I debate this point sharing with them that they participate with my insurer and therefore cannot charge me the difference between what insurance pays and what they bill.
Third Response: I see here that you have a $155.30 credit on your account. WHAT THE F????
My response: Why is there a credit and what is it for? When was this credit issued? Why haven't I been told about it?
Fourth Response: It was issued as soon as insurance paid out. Which was in April. We don't give out credits as most patients prefer to use them towards other work.
My respone: (Admittedly unfair) So your practice is to habitually overcharge patients and commit insurance fraud and then hold patients money until they come back to you?
Fifth Response: I can have our accountant contact you about the credit and get her to issue a refund.
My response: Can you have the accountant call me so I can talk to her? Can I have the accountants name?
Sixth Response: We don't let her talk to people, she only does the books.
My internal response: She cooks the books you mean...
Resolution: Supposedly the accountant will be issuing a refund to me for the amount of $155.30 I'm pissed because it came out of my flexible spending account which I can't put the money back into or onto. I'm giving them a week to get me the refund before I start proceedings with my insurance company.
My next steps: Report the dental group to CA ADA, file appeal to insurance company about the quality and practices of the group, Post BIG NASTY REVIEW and Warning on Peachhead and every known reviewing site for the practice.
Hope it saves someone else from the nightmare.
