Running 101

I signed up for Running 101 with Potomac River Running Training in Burke.I now meet up with a coach twice a week and run for an hour. We go through running drills, short runs of two to three miles, warm up and cool down stretching and exercise. We also do fartleks and other work.
Why am I learning to run again? Because my gait has changed. Significantly. I have this tiny little gait now. No more long stride, no more penguin either. It's really weird. We have to train my left foot though to get it's act together and not flat strike. Very very interesting.

The fun part was yesterday was session two. Timed trial run of two miles. A solid 12:30 pace. I had to walk for a total of 2 minutes within the entire 2 miles. It was much better than I expected and much more enlightening than I expected. I was very happy at the end.

One of the fun things is that I expected as the injured person and what I thought would be the fattest person in the group I found out that out of 15 women I'm in 4th place for speed--so not the slowest by any means, definitely not the fattest, and in general while not in great shape doing just fine for restart.

So at the end of week one I've managed about 5 miles with decent form. This is about getting back into the joy of it.

Woo hoo! Glad that the restarting process is going so well. Running is totally my therapy time; I've gotten completely addicted!
