Back update
Had to wake Wyatt up this morning to help me put a diaper on Wylie.
I couldn't bend over to do it. I almost had to get his help to put my underwear on but I managed with a really interesting move that I think I learned in girl scouts...dressing under the sleeping bag so as not to have cold seep in.
At school, Wylie was actually a great help in that he can follow simple directions and put his diaper covers in his bin at school, put the milk on the bottom shelf, and then gave me a kiss on my leg goodbye.
Of course this morning I had to carry my backpack with my laptop which was excruciating. My limp and funny walk solicited the help of a colleague and then the sympathy of the office manager. I get to park in the closer lot tomorrow morning.
I tried not to whimper and whine today but I was in pain. The 800mg Motrin helped but not as much as I'd like. I did wear a therma care back heating pad all day. These are the kind that come in two packs and aren't hot until you open them. Looked like a massive maxi pad that I was wearing on my lower back but it helped all day.
So now it's 9:30 and I've got a ton of bengay on my back, the heating pad in the microwave and the Family Circle magazine to read while I lay in my bed hoping for relief.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

I am worried about you!!!
Sorry for the obvious question, but have you seen a doctor and are you sure the problem was diagnosed correctly? My back problem -- annular tear on lumbar spine -- was incorrectly Dx as a slight herniation. And although I did/do have a slight herniation on disk 3, the problem causing the pain was the annular tear. I walked around in pain for several days and then... THEN... was hit by the worst pain of my life and paralyzed. It was the most humiliating, horrible, terrible, awful experience of my life. I'm afraid for something like this to happen to you and are worried that the pain isn't improving (which was what happened with me).
REST AND BE OKAY!!!
I fell down the stairs in March 2002 leaving a massive goose egg and bruise just above my tailbone. I didn't think much of it and continued about my life.
In October 2002 just as I started grad school, I hit the paralyzing stage of pain. Saw a really horrible college health center physicians assistant then finally a specialist. I have a herniated disc and sciatic nerve damage. The nerve damage is from prior to the fall. Best the md's can do is prescribe motrin and heat.
