Potomac River Youth Track-Wylie

Wylie ran track with the Potomac River Running Youth Track program this fall. It was an 8 week program in which kids age 5 through 14 learn the fundamentals of running. All age groups learn running drills, proper form, race etiquette, technique, stretching, warm up and cool down, and essentially that running is fun.

Wylie had been begging to go running with me on the weeknights that I go running but he is too little for that program so when the opportunity arose for him to join his own group I jumped at the chance. He has loved it. It ended with a track meet last Sunday.

The highlights are that Wylie ran really well during all the sessions up to the meet and then was too focused on having fun for the actual meet. He did come in second for the 400 meter. He was the starter for the 4 x 100 relay, and ran both the 100 and 200 meter races as well. Only one other boy in his age group ran all four races. Some kids only ran one race.

Coach Mo! If he looks familiar then you watched the Olympics. He ran for Haiti.
