Birthday Boy!

We celebrated Wylie's 2nd birthday for the entire weekend. Here is a brief recap: Friday Wylie wore a birthday crown all day at school. The class sang Happy Birthday to him. His teacher painted a beautiful birthday cake on his cheek. He didn't want to take the crown off nor would he let me wash the cake off his face.

We made cupcakes for his actual birthday the next day. Wylie is getting really good at helping me make cookies, cupcakes, pancakes, and anything that involves pouring and mixing. The best thing was that Wylie kept telling me that we needed to add baking powder to the mix. We did indeed need to add baking powder but I hadn't previously told him that. He REMEMBERED from when we were testing out the recipe to find the right mix of ingredients.

Saturday

I woke up at the crack of dawn to get a decent 4 mile run in before getting home to start the celebration of Wylie's 2nd birthday. We decided that his birthday "event" would be low key which it was, we just didn't think about the fact it was lasting ALL weekend.

Wylie woke up early, snuggled with Papa until it was time to get out of bed and move to the couch for another installment of Alvin and the Chipmunks. (movies take about three days to watch).

I put out his gifts when I got home and then asked Wylie to go into his room to get changed. Wyatt and I stood near the front door to get Wylie's reaction to his present extravaganza. He actually made the wide-eyed, open mouthed "OOOHHHHHH" facial and verbal expression. It was great. Almost a preview of what Christmas morning might be for us.

We then had our friends over in the afternoon for a playdate. Bibi, Chase, Charlie and William came over to play. It was so much fun having a completely unstructured playtime for Wylie. He did really well sharing and taking turns. ESPECIALLY with new toys. We shared cupcakes and goodie bags before everyone left around 6pm. Wyatt then headed out to the AC/DC concert and Wylie and I sat down to a yummy pumpkin ravioli and macaroni and cheese dinner.

Sunday

Day three of birthday celebrations! We headed out to Disneyland to give Wylie his real birthday wish. Fireworks! We had lunch at Goofy's Kitchen complete with a visit from Goofy and a chef. Disney again won my loyalty as they made a gluten, egg, dairy free waffle and pancake in mickey shape for Wylie. The chef also went out of his way to put ONLY watermelon and grapes in the fruit bowl for Wylie.

We got to the park in time for the first parade which meant we were on the Disneyland Railroad when the parade left Fantasyland. This delayed the train for about ten minutes but the conductor was nice enough to entertain Wylie and us. We then decided to it was time for Wylie to learn to drive. Afterall he's been practicing in the Volvo for months! He did a really good job at driving. He only caused one accident and now has a face scrape to prove it. We went on many rides, checked out the parade again in the late afternoon. The big event was at 9:30. The fireworks and the lit up castle. We had a great view and Wylie was in heaven. The big suprise...SNOW at the end of the show. It was soap snow but still it was cool. It was 10pm when we headed back to the car. Wylie barely made it out of the park awake.

Overall for a "low-key" birthday this was a great weekend. Wylie had a really good time, wasn't overstimulated at any point, and in general did what he wanted for his birthday. Played with friends, made cupcakes, and saw fireworks. I'm really glad I was able to listen and give him what he wanted for his birthday.

I can't begin to imagine the 3rd birthday.
